October on the Cape is often a lovely time... Indian Summer or the first cool offshore breezes of Fall. It's usually a perfect time for a wedding.
Katie and Kevin had planned a Jewish - Persian wedding ceremony, honoring both of their traditions, to take place at the Popponesset Inn http://209.18.100.21/fw/main/Popponesset-68.html, in New Seabury on Cape Cod.
Tony Ormonde http://www.ormondeproductions.com/ draped walls and ceiling in pale pink sheers and suspended cylindrical silk shades over the ceremony area. Winston's http://www.winstonflowers.com hung countless, tiny glass bud bases from the chuppah, each filled with a miniature rosebud. Thick banks of pink rose petals lined both sides of the aisle runner decorated with the couple's monogram. Golden cones filled with fragrant pink and white roses perfumed the room.
Outside an unexpected Nor'Easter raged, with high winds casting waves almost to the windows of the site.
Following the processional, the Persian ceremony (Sofreh) took place at a ceremonial table facing East. The couple sat together facing a beautiful mirror representing the light and brightness they were welcoming into their future. Friends and family sprinkled sugar over Katie and Kevin's heads and they fed one another honey before walking to the chuppah and exchanging vows, with Kevin breaking the traditional glass.
Transitioning to the reception site was quite the adventure as guests wrapped plastic bags around their sandals and ran to their cars in the horizontal rain. A few miles away at Willowbend Country Club http:www.willowbendcountryclub.com waited a reception that was breathtaking, once again designed and executed by Tony Ormonde. A lovely tent awaited, with stunning crystal chandeliers, washes of hot pink texture bathing the walls and ceiling, and arcs of white palaenopsis orchids decorating the long tables. As guests dried off and enjoyed cocktails,
the staff set up, considered and reconsidered whether the tent could withstand the storm.
The guests were invited in, the father of the bride delivered a short toast, the lavish buffet was opened, and guests focused on eating while the tent seams started to leak. A gust of wind set the first glasses crashing, and the reception site moved quickly and gracefully upstairs to the clubhouse just minutes before more chandeliers and glassware came crashing down in the 60MPH winds.
Did I say it was a wonderful party? Did I say that everyone kept their cool - bride, groom, musicians, lighting crew, dj and guests? With hardly a break in rhythm, the wedding party kept smiling, the bride and groom looked happy and in love during their first dance (in fact, all night); the parents and guests burst into a hora and didn't stop dancing until evening's end. I have to think that a couple who smiles and parties together through a rare October Nor' Easter with flooding and 60MPH winds is likely to "weather" (pun intended) anything life can throw their way!
Here, then, a taste of Katie and Kevin's wonderful wedding:

Add to myYahoo!I'm often asked what I would do differently if I was to plan my wedding all over again. And though I have such great memories of our day, my a-number-one answer is that I absolutely regret not having video.
Not being "in the industry" at the time, my pre-wedding dreams were haunted by of visions of an in-your-face, cheesy videographer petrifying guests with his fuzzy mic and monstrous camera. I hadn't known about all the artful wedding documentary styles out there... and I certainly didn't know about Hello Super 8.
Now that I'm more "in the know" on weddings, I'd probably do a few things differently on my big day. And on the top of that list would be calling Megan Hill.
In 2007, Megan {then a graphic designer with a background in the entertainment industry} had the fabu idea of dusting off her old super 8 camera to film her friend's wedding... and from there a tres-genius idea was born.
Megan and her team of NYC and LA-based cinematographers capture their clients' weddings on stylish super 8 films that are are totally charming and completely unique, with artful results I just adore. They cater to people who are looking for something a little different to the typical wedding video {no faded edges, no swelling cheesy music, no flying hearts or angels - hooray!}... Just beautifully tasteful moving images that allow you to remember the day as it really FELT.
Anywho {at the risk of sounding eerily reading-rainbow-esque}, you don't need to take my word for it... Just take a peek at this gorgeous super 8 wedding Megan filmed at St. Patrick's Cathedral and Studio 450. Totally. To. Die. For.

Heather & Craig's wedding was the perfect Manhattan celebration. They saw each other for the first time that day at Battery Park, where they also had one of their first dates. The weather was fantastic for the super fun photo shoot. They were then whisked away uptown to wed in the magnificent St. Patrick's Cathedral. The space was overwhelming but the lighthearted ceremony was remarkably intimate for being in such a grand cathedral. And from there, the party got started at Studio 450 right across the island.
I loved that space. It was so clean, white and bright... the ideal loft space to hold a rocking party. Heather & Craig both looked so happy all day, enjoying themselves to the fullest. I really adored this couple. My favorite part of the day was when we took them to the very top of the roof, overlooking all of New York at sunset to steal a few more super 8 moments. And how can you go wrong with one of Heather's favorite songs, "Catch the Wind" by Donovan {the perfect compliment to evoking super 8 nostalgia!}?

Every bride wants their wedding to stand out and be different from the next. A great way to do this is to personalize little things at your wedding. This can include branding your wedding by creating a signature logo and incorporating it into your entire wedding, from the stationery to the dance floor . But this can get rather expensive. So an affordable alternative is to create wedding labels. You can add the labels to the back of your invitation, to menu cards, programs and even favors.
Check out some of these great options from Beau-Coup

There are so many options available to suit any couples style. Check out more options over at Beau- Coup.
Which ones do you like?

Add to myYahoo! We are often asked what venues we like best for events, mostly weddings. We do have our favorites. They are usually marked by beautiful, original decor, great light, food, service and wonderful staff.
Yesterday a friendly door man at the Ames (Nicholas) engaged me in conversation about just that subject as I waited for my car to be retrieved by the valet. I had just experienced a wonderful historic tour of the Ames, expertly and charmingly described and annotated by my host, Julie Guerra. I couldn't make the Ames Wedding Event on January 12, as my husband and I were busy being NOT busy (for once!) in Isla Mujeres, Mexico.
The Ames is old - and very new - and witty - and gracious. It's everything magical about Old Boston integrated into very modern, very thoughtful and sophisticated spaces. The lobby opens from a high, vaulted ceiling of 19th century mosaic tile, patterned in an almost pre-deco style. When the builders started breaking through the dropped ceilings of the old office building, they found the ceiling and wisely, left it intact - setting it off by a super- shiny, wild and almost overgrown, very modern chandelier. To the left is a fireplaced intimate seating area, combining antique chairs with modern fixtures in stark black and white. Very cool.
The rooms are spacious, with an almost Zen feeling about them - lower platform beds, sculptural bathroom areas and huge windows from which to watch the non-stop activities of the downtown financial district.
There is no ballroom. There are soft grey and white meeting rooms which are perfect canvases for rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, anniversary celebrations. And then there is The Apartment. This "apartment" on the 3rd floor would be (and feels like) a penthouse - except it's on the 3rd floor. It has a very NYC feel to it, with multiple sofas and charming seating areas, panoramic windows, and a sense of intimate, cozy, sophistication. It would be perfect for a small wedding (50 guests).
If you're planning a sophisticated, urban affair in Boston, do check out The Ames. You may just find the perfect place for your party.
