Montreal High Style Dessert Tables

As many of you know, I'm a bit obsessed with styling sweets. There's something about placing yummy treats in a way that makes them even more tantalizing that just makes me... want to eat up everything on the table!
I recently got a bit of a sweet tooth and decided to put together a few new designs. I design depending on my mood and here I was feeling very...hmmmm...angelic?! I wanted everything to look very clean and calm (whatever that means). I commissioned some of my fav Montreal Sweets peeps and well, voilà!

The Role of a Makeup Artist on Your Wedding Day

Just like your wedding planner, your photographer and your florist, your makeup artist plays an important role on your wedding day.

Actress and Model Alison CaneThe relationship you have with your chosen makeup artist should begin the moment you contact him or her. An established and experienced makeup artist will know what questions to ask to make sure you get precisely the look you want. If you find that you've spoken to some bridal makeup artists and their main concern was getting you booked and taking your money before answering and considering your own concerns/questions then you might want to look around a bit more. Your answers should be dealt with quickly and efficiently. You should know without a doubt that you're dealing with a professional right from the get-go. There should be no room for amateurs on your big day.

At your wedding trial, you shouldn't feel rushed. Some makeup artists offer only a short amount of time for a makeup trial, all the while charging you less than a seasoned pro and rushing themselves out the door but this is a false economy. Why? Let me explain...

Your trial needs to be thorough and you need to feel satisfied, if not elated with your look. Your makeup artist should make a commitment to get to know you, your wedding style and how you really want to look on your wedding day. This cannot be done in a rush and it cannot be done 'on the cheap.' In most cases, makeup artists that rush through a makeup trial don't really care if you're happy. The truth is, they really only care about the bottom line and you're really only a number to them. You deserve better than that.

On your wedding day, your makeup artist's role is to provide you and your chosen bridesmaid's, MOB's, etc., with beautiful makeup no matter what is asked of them. Your wedding day is filled with lots of nervous energy and you want a real pro by your side - someone who makes you feel calm, assured and relaxed. Drama may be surrounding you but your makeup artist should not be part of that. He/she should be the calming influence that makes you feel as though no matter what happens you WILL look the best you've ever looked before in your entire life.

After your wedding is over this shouldn't be the end of your relationship with your makeup artist. Many  makeup artists want to see your wedding pictures and hear how your wedding day went. Get back in touch to say thanks, recommend them to others and leave reviews of their services on bridal websites.

The relationship between you and your makeup artist is so important and if you take the time to find the right one, you'll know it immediately and it will show...www.vlmakeup.comvm@vickimillar.com416 953 5737

glo minerals Pressed Base, the Cure For Your
M.A.C Studio Fix Addiction

I think I finally found the perfect detox to quit a serious M.A.C Studio Fix Powder addiction – that foundation we’ve all tired for its coverage but quit wearing it because of what it does to your skin (many experience small bumps that are difficult to chase away), and also because of how dull and chalky it can leave skin looking. Pressed Base from g… Read More...

Pet portrait photography, Sonoma CA: meet Otis
the Pug!

My blogging hiatus is officially over! Been a crazy 6 months but I'm back at the keyboard and excited to share with you again. I've got lots of great stuff coming up - cool shoots, lighting how to's, workflow/post processing tutorials and product reviews to name a few. So check back because this baby is definitely kickin' again.

Let's reboot things with a fun pet portrait photography session of Otis the Pug!!

I love photographing our four legged friends! Pet owners out there know how special these little critters are and how they really do become members of the family. Pets enrich our lives everyday that we're lucky enough to have them around. Otis has been sick recently which made the shoot all the more special. He's doing much better now and is such a sweet little guy.

I wish I had done a portrait session of my beautiful girl Louisiana before she passed a little over a year ago this June. I tell every pet owner I know they should get a pet portrait photography session done for their pets. Saying I should have is no fun, trust me.

Otis was a great sport during his session! He especially enjoyed the peanut butter treats he got to coax those lip smacking good expressions out of him. I'm really glad Rebecca brought him in for a session, we all had a great time. Otis, my man!!

If you're interested in booking a pet portrait photography session just contact the studio and we'll get you set up. We'd love to meet you and your special friends!

Photographers: If you'd like to learn more about the studio lighting I used to created these images please check back in a few days. I'll explain exactly how I did it ;-)
