The Best Organic Lines Youre Probably Not Using
(but should..)

I like to think of these 5 lines as the 30 Rock of the organic skincare world; favorably reviewed and loved by Beauty Editors but maybe not a household name… yet. They’re a little under the radar (some by choice), crafted in small batches and made with nature and totally effective. Trust me, you’ll see a difference when you feed your skin pla… Read More...

Raise a Glass

We encourage couples to buy their toasting flutes, if they don't receive them as a wedding gift. They don't have to be fancy or expensive (like the boxed set includes a champagne and crystal champagne flute in the form of a beautiful, red-soled Louboutin stiletto). Every year you should pull the flutes out of the cabinet and toast to another year. Cheers!

Wedding Day Beauty Tips

-by guest blogger Juliana Landis

Aside from her dress, makeup is one of the most important things a bride can wear on her wedding day. All brides want to look their best on this day more than any other occasion, as the video and pictures taken will be viewed for years to come. Makeup Juliana Landis has some great tips for you and your readers to achieve that stunning look on such the special day.

Before the big day arrives it is very important to research makeup artists at least 3-6 months in advance in order to set up trial run. By doing so a bride can discuss their look/style and scan through magazines to guarantee they get the look they want on their wedding day.

Creating a flawless base that doesn?t look heavy or caked on is essential. To do this, Landis believes a good primer is essential. When preparing a bridal client at her studio, Landis likes to airbrush her clients to give them a flawless red carpet look, using Temptu, as they have a great color range for every skin tone and their silicone base covers all imperfections. Also suggested is the bride should stay away from shimmer powders and bronzers as it doesn?t always photograph well and try to stick with a matte bronzer. To avoid unwanted shine, Landis uses a yellow toned translucent powder concentrating on the forehead, nose and cheek area. The most important step in creating a beautiful ?blushing? bride is ? blush! A romantic pink color works well on lips and cheeks as beiges and nudes will wash out in the photos, something critical for a bride to avoid! A great color Landis recommends is Nars in Orgasm, it works well will every skin tone and stays put all day and comes in a stick form that the bride can keep with her and re-apply as needed.

Eyes should be as natural as possible to create a classic and timeless look that will remain in style for years to come. Landis likes to use a beige color all over the entire lid, with a taupe color in the crease and a sweep of peach across the lid. This color combination will give the appearance of a no makeup look. To give brides a very natural, pretty look, Landis likes to create a light smokey eye, that always looks great. If the bride has blue or green eyes I like to use natural copper colors with a taupe in the crease for contour, these colors will make the eye color pop. My brown eyed girls look great with deep plums again with taupe in the crease and keeping in mind to blend blend blend. Eyes should be lined with a soft brown pencil, and if needed, individual lashes can be applied to add a more dramatic look. Make sure to use waterproof glue, or better yet ? have semi permanent lashes applied by a professional. These will stay put through the wedding day tears all the way through to the end of your honeymoon.

To ensure long lasting lip color, Landis suggests using a lip liner a few shades darker than your natural skin tone and fill in with lipstick applied with a lip brush. This technique will hold much better than lip gloss.

For last minute emergencies at the alter, the Maid of Honor should keep a rescue kit containing concealer, lipstick, Advil, band-aids, safety pins and tissues!!

Vendors We Love: Jessica Hill Photography

Hi ladies!
Today we'd like you to meet one of Portland's sweetest photographers. Jessica Hill is truly charming, and there's nothing better than having a wedding photographer that you really like on your big day. Add to that charm her incredible eye, talent, and beautiful work, and you've got yourself the best of the best. Without further ado: Jessica Hill Photographywww.jessicahillphotography.comContact: 503.415.1411
What do you love most about what you do?I love the way I'm invited to tell an extremely personal, unique story with my photos, and I treasure the privilege I'm given to capture a couple's best memories together. I'm so grateful for all the wonderful stories and gorgeous couples I've had the chance to document!

What's the strangest/silliest/happiest/most unexpected wedding day experience you've had so far?I LOVED the menagerie wedding I documented for Britt & David. The had their dog, Tycho as ring bearer, and a tortoise Matilda present - their venue also had gorgeous peacocks and birds roaming the grounds, so there was lots of wonderful animal life everywhere! It was pretty unique!

What's the one thing you'd want to see/have/do at your wedding? I love a really simple, intimate wedding, like Alix & Ben's gorgeous Oregon coast wedding. Something small and unique - close friends and family, some breathtaking views, good food and dancing are all I need! While a really considered, event wedding can be one of the most spectacular events, I know for me I'd love a low-key and intimate affair.

What do you know about weddings/brides now that you didn't know when you started your business?I really appreciate the diversity that your wedding can have - I've photographed everything from quick elopements to full weekend destination weddings, and the variety in what your day can contain is so endless! I've worked with some really interesting, unique couples that have given me such insight into their personalities just with the things they chose to highlight on their day.

What is the best advice you can give to a bride-to-be?Take your time - if you want a summer weekend wedding, venues will book up the year before, so make it a long engagement :) Meet with your photographer, make sure to have them photograph you before the wedding during and engagement session, so you're at your most comfortable on the big day!

Show us a picture you're especially proud of, and tell us why.I LOVE this image from Adrianne and Daren's engagement session. It's so unconventional and a bit photojournalistic - it's really just a moment captured, but from a specific vantage point and I think it tells the story of their love in such a nice way. So simple, but still breathtaking :)
Jessica, thanks so much for taking the time to answer our questions and share your beautiful work!
Happy oooing and ahhing over lovely wedding pics!
~AniA

One More Vote For Gay Weddings In New York

New York is on the verge of becoming the sixth state to allow gay marriage. Gov Cuomo introduced the bill in both chambers on Tuesday. In an effort to pacify Republicans, the bill has several stipulations that exempt religious institution from having to oblige or provide facilities for gay weddings.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has pushed for gay marriage, garnishing widespread support from Democrats in the State Assembly. However, Republicans, who control the State Senate, have been an obstacle in his goal. But, Republicans are coming around to the idea. Tuesday, two Republican state senators gave their support to Gov. Cuomo?s gay marriage bill. Thirty-one Republicans support the bill.
