Chris + Elizabeth's summer soiree (found by {Lucky Designs} on {The Knot}) is definitely our Southern Wedding of the Week! Her Tennessee wedding last June has so many personal touches. She learned letterpress for the wedding and made these super fun southern favors for guests. Absolutely perfect! We have more details coming this afternoon from several of her vendors. Check out her {bio page} for more. Stay tuned for details from the gorgeous southern bride & beau...

Add to myYahoo!Of course Europe is magical, and I am soaking in every minute of it, but in between eating gallons of gelato and attempting to speak with anyone who will give me a second look, I have come to the conclusion that I am in need of major color scheme help! I can't stop obsessing over the difficulty of finding a good blend of colors to match my venue, and I thought that now might be the perfect time to let you look over my venue photos to get an idea of what I am up again. I haven't written a proper introduction post for my venue yet, which will come soon, but here are the photos I came away with after my tour.
1. A view of the atrium where the ceremony will be held. Very light and bright and structural.
2. The beams we are going to be able to hang candles from.
3. The chairs that the hotel provides. We would like to use these instead of renting chair covers. I'm spending so much money elsewhere, I have to find ways to cut the budget on un-necessary items like chair covers.
4. That man is standing right where we will be. The doors will have to be closed, but a nice little garden sits right behind where we will stand.
5. The library where we will greet our guests right after the ceremony. I heart this room.
6. Another shot of the library. You can see the ceremony atrium right behind it. Don't you just love that white chair?
7. The room where we will set up our photo booth. Something is going to have to be done about those curtains. Guests will take photos in front of the open window with the city lights in the background.
8. The room right off the elevator where appetizers will be served, the guest book will sit, etc. Guests stop off of the elevator right into this room before they walk into the ceremony so it will be the first thing they see. I want the "theme" of the wedding to really come together in this room.
9. A shot of the carpet in the appetizer room.
10. The great room where we will have dinner, possibly a little dancing, and toasts
11. A closeup of the chandeliers that I love!
So what do you think? Right now I am thinking greens, bronze, hints of red, and black. I loved the newest post about nudes at Elizabeth Anne Designs, and so maybe that would be an option as well.
I need your help!

Add to myYahoo!I’m sure this title will get us a lot of spam, but it’s worth the risk!As Jennifer from Salt Harbor Designs pointed out, deep rich purples are going to be a big trend. I love that it is being paired with more unusual neutrals (hello gray!). Nude is this sassy interesting neutral, and [...]

Add to myYahoo! We are SO excited about this contest!
Who's it for? Everyone! Brides, photographers, bloglovers, designers, artists, friends...anyone can get into this one and win!
What do I have to do? Take a picture (yes, it can be with your disposable camera or your fancy-schmancy pro equipment) of any tangible item that you create to say "SWS" or "I LOVE SWS". No computer-generated text here. You can draw it, make it out of paper clips on your desk, have your 2 year old scribble it for fun, have your bride and groom sign it with their fingers, write it in the sand or snow, place your SWS sign somewhere fun or in someone's hands and snap a pic of it, make it out of paper mache, your favorite wedding clippings, flowers, buttons, glitter, or any combination of materials you desire! Get crafty, get creative, and maybe even break out those finger paints you've been dying to play with again since you were 10. Again, no "PhotoShopping" the letters in, you have to do it the old fashioned [fun] way.
Details: Enter as many images as you wish (collages of several images are great too). Send your entries to submissions@swsmag.com as jpeg attachments. Contest ends Sunday the 25th, so you have about 10 days to have fun with this. We will post the finalists on Memorial Day and YOU get to vote on your favorite this time!
Prize: Take your pick~ businesses, designers, vendors: an ad on our blog for a month OR brides, friends, blog lovers: a $25 {Paper-Source} gift card!
***We have another very exciting contest coming up this month with {Lucky Designs}! More to come on that later... have fun!

Add to myYahoo!Firstly, it is important that I state that I love drawing inspiration from the past- but that is where it must stop.... inspiration. You don't want your wedding looking like your grandmother's living room any more than you want it to look like those "dated" weddings of tulle and mirror centerpieces. So let's examine a few rules that I have for creating a vintage- err- timeless affair.
Rule ONE: Don't make it LOOK like something, make it BE something....
This is an important one. You see, I completely agree that you need a VISION and a COHESIVE THREAD.... but sometimes we can take this a little too literal and the party looks over styled and like a kid in a costume. You don't want it to resemble a Hollywood Glamour Feel- you want it to emulate that feeling on its own....
One of the easiest ways to fall into this catagory is by bad venue choice. If you want a lavishly grand event, then opt for a lavishly grand environment. Go for Architecturely Interesting Spaces. In truth, your money is better spent in finding a space that sets the tone rather than trying to make another space into your ideal setting. Dressing up a banquet hall in hundreds of flowers doesn't make it have a "garden feel".... slapping a few palms into a museum doesn't make it tropical.... embrace the space you are in and make sure that every decision you make is indicative of the overall vision you have.
Find beautiful spaces that will not need so much to enhance them. Rather than look at their price tag and think - Oh no, but what about everything else? - Think... well in reality there won't be as much "something else's" because I won't need to bring in all the other "stuff"... A gorgeous space will be gorgeous for decades to come- it is my firm belief that some of these "platinum, over the top affairs" will seem a little dated in the coming years.
Your space needs to make you feel something... and that something should be the same feeling that you are trying to acheive with the overall design. (This is the ceremony site of my upcomming nuptuals.... we chose the oak for so many reasons- this massive tree makes you feel as though you are in the prescence of something so much greater than you- something that has sustained so much and something that you want to understand. We are going for a warm, approachable, but still very moving event. I think that this tree hits all of our marks.)

Add to myYahoo!I first saw Caroline's work at Paloma's Nest on Wedding Bee. Her beautiful bowls were perfect to hold the rings of a bride and groom on their special day. When I was little, I always had "treasures" - trickets that were extremely important to me. I felt like my daughter needed a place to one day store her treasures. The tiny "Lucky" bowl from Paloma's Nest was perfect for Lucky Baby! Wait until you see the packaging too.
