Add to myYahoo!Things have been crazy in my life lately and the one thing that keeps me going is knowing that I'm always doing things for me. It is so easy to get sucked into doing things for everyone else but until you realize that you have to live your life for you, and no one else, then it's going to be a hard road.
Happy Planning,

Add to myYahoo!I?d like to introduce our newest guest contributor, Anjanette Sinesio, founder of Diamond in the Rough. Anjanette?s going to be joining us each month to share her thoughts on jewelry and style trends from the red carpet to the aisle...
Hello lovely Merci New Y
ork readers! A big thanks to Jacqueline Weppner to let me share my thoughts on jewelry and style trends that transcend the red carpet to the wedding aisle along with some of my own chic New York wedding inspiration for you!
My name is Anjanette Sinesio (née Clisura, still getting used to that as I recently tied the knot on 8/6/11) and I'm the co-owner, president and creative director of Diamond in the Rough. Our company was founded on the premise that diamonds in their natural form should be celebrated for their inherit beauty and inner glow. Each of our fine jewelry pieces, engagement rings, and rough diamond wedding bands incorporate rough diamonds exactly as they are found in nature. This mean that the rough diamond is never cut, polished, or otherwise altered but rather celebrated for its unique identity and beauty. Since each rough diamond has its own distinct identity (almost like a human fingerprint), this assures that your jewelry or wedding rings are as one of a kind as your love story!
I've worked in the jewelry industry for over 15 years for many leading brands in many capacities and have helped dress stars including Jennifer Lopez, Demi Moore, Alicia Keys and Hilary Swank among others. Yet, it wasn't until planning my own wedding this year that I saw how many of those looks from the red carpet gave me inspiration for my own distinctive New York wedding. Like all of you, I searched for the best resources to help me plan each detail of my special day, and found Merci New York to be the perfect blend of information, bridal fashion, and chic style to help me, a busy New Yorker!
With all that being said, I look forward to sharing my jewelry and style secrets with you here in the upcoming months, but first, would love to share tips on how I kept my wedding chic and true to my husband Dominic and my personalities. I hope these are tricks that will help each of you when planning your own stylish soirée!
Dare to be different
Since Dominic and I were getting married slightly later in life, at the age of 40, we opted for an intimate affair with only our closest friends and family. Both spiritual, but not practicing any particular religion, we decided to omit traditions that we didn't feel connected with. We had a friend obtain his marriage license and marry us at 620 Loft & Garden at Rockefeller Center. We didn't have bridesmaids or groomsmen and even ditched the cake and opted for a selection of our favorite desserts! Our reception was held at Duane Park , a jazz & burlesque club in downtown Manhattan. Both being artists, we wanted something untraditional and a lot of fun. There are so many unique venues here in New York and although they may not all be typical wedding destinations, dare to be different!
Work with the Dress
Like many women, the first thing I thought after I got engaged was the dress. I knew I wanted something unique... something that wasn't white, and took a cue from the runway. Lucky for me, I happen to know the amazingly talented Carmen Marc Valvo and, with his help, felt like a princess in my silver, one of a kind gown. If you don't have a designer on speed dial there's no need to fret; all bridal boutiques offer gowns in varying colors or even unique shades of white or cream. Choosing a shorter dress as opposed to a full-length gown can also set you apart... the possibilities are endless. Like many brides, I selected my jewelry after my gown. One really important thing to keep in mind when selecting your wedding day jewels is that you don't want to detract from the dress (or your face), but rather want to complement it. Since my gown was quite elaborate, I opted for simple drop earrings from our Champagne Bubbles Collection. If your dress is more traditional or simply-stated, you may want to opt for larger, statement-making pieces like a necklace or chandelier earrings.
Use Technology
With members of your wedding party and special guests potentially living around the world, coordinating everyone's look for the big day can be a real challenge. One amazing tool that can help is the BFF (Best Fashion friend) app, a smartphone app that gives you instant access to a hand-picked group of friends who weigh in on your style dilemmas. The tool allows you to easily snap a photo, create looks using items you own or want, and to share looks with your family and friends for real-time advice. I personally sent countless photos of my jewelry, hairpiece, makeup, etc. to friends during my pre-wedding rush, so having this tool can really streamline the process. And in the sea of wedding expenses, it's free!
Befriend your Photographer
Working with a photographer who knows your expectations and understands you both as a couple is crucial. Make sure to meet with your photographer ahead of time or schedule engagement photos to get more comfortable in front of the camera and share more about your personalities. Creating a shot list is also important so that the photographer knows exactly who or what you'd most like to have photos of. Our photographer, Lilian Haidar , was amazing at capturing all the big (and little) moments of our day and our identity as a couple. Other great photographers can be found under the "sponsors" section on Merci New York.
Don't Forget the Rings
In addition to your engagement ring, your wedding bands are probably the most significant pieces of jewelry you'll ever own. That being said, make sure to leave plenty of time to order the rings and set aside your ring budget ahead of time. Some couples like their wedding bands to match either in style elements or metal. I knew I wanted a wedding band that complimented my rough diamond engagement ring so I selected a delicate micro pavé band from our collection. Dominic wanted something with a really organic feel and more heft, so he chose a band from Canadian designer Anne Sporton.
Also, keep in mind that some brides who opt for more statement-making bands choose to wear their engagement ring and band on separate fingers, or store their engagement ring somewhere safe and just wear their band.
I have enjoyed sharing my jewelry, style, and wedding tips with you and look forward to bringing you the latest from the red carpet to the aisle next month!
