Many couples find that the best way to start their married life together is by sharing experiences and making memories. The honeymoon is a great opportunity to do this — to go somewhere exotic and exciting perhaps, or spend time relaxing together, away from work and everyday worries. More and more couples also find that they [...]

Add to myYahoo!Working in the wedding and events industry comes with quite a few perks: Being surrounded by wonderfully talented people, having great and gracious clients, and {hey, who am I kidding?!} getting to go to some pretty fabulous parties...
From intimate dinner parties to large scale blow-outs, our Merci New York staff has been lucky to enjoy the awe-inspiring talents of the best in the biz. Case in point? The amazing Colin Cowie's recent "Welcome to NYC Party" for Kim Kardashian and her new hubby Kris Humphries at Capitale...
While digging into my notes for some light Friday afternoon content, a light bulb went off in my head. Why not share these amazing events with readers?! While we all don't have a budget as big as Kim's, aren't these amazing {and often over the top} festivities some of the best event eye candy out there? Check out how Colin had Capitale hopping last Wednesday... {Needless to say, Thursday was a bit of a rough day at the office}.
Capitale glowed with excitement, as police blocked off the sidewalks so guests could enter the venue...
Colin once told me he loves to design events with tactile details. Case in point? This grand fringe curtain and beaded center arrangement.
Dramatic event lighting showed off the venue's geometric rotunda and the striking nature of the space...
The invite promised us of "A Night of Style and Glamour"... Colin delivered by decorating the space with posh mirrored and metallic lounge furniture, accented with white floral arrangements.
The party was co-hosted by Jason Binn, CEO and founder of Niche Media.
Kim and crew were greeted on a black and white striped runway to a buzz of excited press.
The party began with an amazing DJ set and continued with a slew of entertaining surprises...
...like this scantily clad {but oh-so-amazing!} musician who played alongside some hot hip hop mixes.
Kim, Kris, Colin and crew welcome the crowd to the party....
The Kardashians pose for pics... Check out that cake!
... And the crowd takes to the stage with a whole new set of drums...
The surprises didn't stop there... soon after an aerialist wowed us with some acrobatic feats...
And like all fabulous parties, it continued well into the evening...
So what do you think?! Who's hiring Colin Cowie for their next party?
xx,

By guest blogger Melissa Phillips
Event Coordinator & Owner of Simply Perfect by Melissa
Gone are the days of the taffeta nightmare paired with dyed shoes and a miserable bridesmaid. While bridesmaids should be a little overshadowed by the spotlight of the bride, they still deserve to look good and have fun!
These days, bridesmaids are tapping in to the hottest trends and Melissa Phillips of Simply Perfect by Melissa is showing off the best of these trends.
Bridesmaid trends to love:
1. Nontraditional bridesmaid dresses: One of the biggest complaints about being a bridesmaid dress is the cost (and look) of a single use dress. The wedding industry is seeing more maids wearing dresses from women?s retailers such as Ann Taylor, J.Crew and other boutique shops. These dresses can still be colorful, but they have cocktail feel. After the weddings, jewelry, belts, sandals, wraps, etc give the dress a whole new feeling.
2. Fun accessories: Bridesmaids are embellishing their dresses with trendy jewelry, floral pins, brooches, and feathers. Again, this breaks the mold of the traditional bridesmaid dress, and gives them some great new pieces to wear again.
3. Gift for the bridesmaids: The current trend involves less uniformity in gifts and more customization for each girl. Brides are putting individual thought into each of their girls and getting gifts that reflect something about that specific bridesmaid. This gives a much more personal and special touch to gift giving.
4. Metallic shoes: Dye-ables are going by the wayside?Bridesmaids are moving more towards a universal metallic shoe to compliment the dress and add to the accessories. Which is great because these shoes can be used long after the wedding.
5. Variation in bouquets: Vary up the look of the bridesmaid?s bouquet to add a twist to the overall look of the bridesmaids. Brides are choosing a variety of blooms from the blooms being used throughout, or switching up the colors using different shades or colors from the wedding color palette.
6. Smaller bridal parties: Brides are selecting fewer girls to keep their bridal parties smaller and more intimate.
Bridesmaids everywhere can quit groaning and start shopping with these trends in mind. The bridal party has changed gears to allow for way more fun and dresses and accessories that can be used for years to come.

Here’s more info about how advertising works on Offbeat Bride.I'm a HUGE fan of Los Angeles-based wedding planner Laura Guerrie. Laura is more than a sponsor, she's part of the Offbeat Bride family. Ariel turned to Laura to answer the "do you need a wedding planner" question, and she and I have not only worked together, but we also party together. Speaking of parties, why don't we revel in some of the OUTSTANDING offbeat weddings she's helped orchestrated — Star Wars cakes, Muppets, dinosaurs, and generous offbeat discounts await...

Add to myYahoo!Wow it?s been awhile since I have been inspired so that I could inspire. Happy Inspiration Friday? Hope you are still reading despite my absence over the passed little while!
Today my inspiration Friday was inspired by a good friend of mine Dawn Murphy-Rodriguez and her Husband Bill Rodriguez who thought I should do my next inspiration Friday on the movie Gone with the Wind. At first that was exactly what I planned to do.. however I have never seen the movie? I know I know you can breath don?t pass out.. lol. So I decided to instead focus on the intense romance that the movie and books were about.
More specifically.. Romance over the years. Has it changed? In my mind, the idea of true romance can never change. In fact as you?ll see from my boards below although the era?s have changed, romance still stayed the same! But I guess that is only for those who believe in true romance.. and you bet, I do!

Add to myYahoo! This summer, Merci New York had the pleasure of styling the newest twobirds Bridesmaids campaign. We've been big fans of twobirds' super-versatile and amazingly chic gowns for quite some time, so it was fun to work with owner Ariane Goldman and her team to attend to the props, flowers and fashion of the shoot.
We also worked with some of our favorite wedding biz friends... the photos came courtesy of the talented Trent Bailey Photography, and hair and make-up was expertly attended to by Facetime Beauty Concierge... and the dresses {as usual} looked gorg!
Here's one of the winning shots {currently featured in the fall issue of Martha Stewart Weddings}.
A beautiful bridesmaid dress with an elegant, {swoon-worthy!} brooch.
The ladies in their bright pink twobirds dresses... I adored the tiered ombre gown Rashida {center} is wearing. It would be perfect for so many different occasions.
In addition to the fashion and prop styling, Merci dabbled in floral design {bet you didn't know we could tackle that too!}. Here, some props paired with pretty blooms in galvanized tins made for a very versatile backdrop.
Don't you just l.o.v.e. the color of these gowns? The shade looks beautiful on every skin tone, and there's truly a cut {tie, twist or wrap} for every body type.
Ah... my favorite: Behind the scenes shots! Here Rashida shows off the gorgeous rosette silhouette, one of my personal favs! The fabric has a beautiful hand feel - it is so lush and chic.
Trent took some detail shots of the ladies and mise en scene. That brooch {I die!} paired with the versatile navy gown and feminine flowers is such a pretty look for a variety of weddings!
{Oy. I may be only 5'3, but models make me feel super, super short!} Here I am making a quick fix to Rashida's gown for the oh-so-pretty shot at the left.
So that's a sneak peek at the campaign! Are you as in-love with these dresses as we are?
To learn more about twobirds Bridesmaids {and all the fab ways to twist, wrap and style their dresses to perfection} visit their Web site here. And for all our non-NYC readers, have no fear... Twobirds has spread their wings to a slew of other cities, including Los Angeles, Sydney, Toronto and London... so you'll be certain to find their styles at a store near you.
