They're none other than the tres-fab Hannah and Ian, who, as six-degrees of city life may have it, had shared some of their big day details with Merci a few months ago. Hannah executed such cool concepts into her July wedding {three words: doughnut dessert bar}, we just knew the RISDY grad's engagement session would be just as playful and creative!
The engagement session was shot by Brooke Fitts of Brookelyn Photography. Brooke did an amazing job snagging Hannah and Ian's penchant for fun, cheeky and all-out fabulous style... and most importantly, she expertly captured their amazing bond and connection to each other.... Mix-n-Match Bridesmaids Dresses

Traditionally, brides select a dress for their bridesmaids and all of the ladies are matching as they process down the aisle. More recently, some brides have forgone this tradition, allowing their bridesmaids more options, sometimes letting them select each of their dresses completely on their own! This concept may leave some brides very scared, but if you think your ladies all have style or you just want each of their personalities to truly shine through or you just don't like the idea of all your besties looking exactly the same up at your altar, then this may be the perfect option for you.

One route would be to let each bridesmaid pick her dress in any color. This works best for weddings with lots of color that isn't sticking solely to a two or three color theme.

{photo by Matthew Morgan Photography}
Another option is to have a similar dress but in different color combinations or have each girl play it up with her own accessories - this bride even brought stockings into the mix!

If you want to stick to your color scheme but still let your girls pick their ensembles, consider just giving a color family to choose from. It might seem risky, but chances are the ladies will all look lovely, and they will be happy to have a dress they love...and can wear beyond your wedding!

This works well with solids...

{yes, that's me on the far right!}
...but can also be pulled off with patterns and color block!

So whether you like the idea of matching maids or you want mix things up a bit with mismatched attendants, you should always stick to your guns and go with what makes you the most comfortable and happy on your big day!

Wedding Quilt Guest Book

I love this wedding quilt guest book idea from Style Me Pretty! A recent client of ours chose a quilt for their guest book, and as you can imagine, it was a big hit with their guests. Our clients chose to go with a pre-made quilt, where guests would write their messages on the white squares of the quilt (sorry, no photo yet!) with a fabric marker. The alternative to this, is to opt for the single fabric squares as shown above, and then after the wedding sew the quilt together. Both options are equally as fun, and can be a great way to incorporate something unique into your wedding day!

Tip :: Fabric markers work best! I recommend purchasing 4-5 fabric markers, depending upon the size of your wedding.

It was the way the wind blew

{via Lisa Rigby Photography}

I cannot thank our family and friends enough for all of the love and support that they shared with us on our wedding day. Although there was sunshine and smiles, there was one thing missing on that beautiful day, Ger’s mom. After a long battle of cancer, Isabel passed away just days before the wedding.

When you start on the journey of planning your wedding, you don’t realize the decisions you’ll need ...

PRE-ORDER Your Copy of V3!

The third edition of Southern Weddings is printing as we speak! That's right, belles + beaus! YEEHAW!!!

Lara spent this week in Florida getting our third issue off to the printer and signed off on the final files just hours ago!  Here are the only previews you are getting (via Lara's iPhone).  Y'all... it is gorgeous.  Really, very, much much, a lot of, sooooo gorgeous!  We cannot wait for you to see the real thing on October 5th!

From Lara:  Big thanks to the crew at Boyd Brothers for the warm Southern hospitality!  The printer itself... massive.

The paper... massive x100

What is up with this shrugging my shoulders pose!?  I look far too happy standing in front of literal tons of paper.  I blame the fact that I had to get up at 5am to drive to Boyd! OK, I digress...

Yes, I am wearing no make-up above and I sure am wearing glasses AND sunglasses at the same time.  Didn't you know that a week of print madness gives you license to look ridiculous?  Well, now you do.  This week has been incredible! We're finally done!  ... and just in time for a little something happening this weekend.  Miss Katharine Waterman is getting married in Boston on Saturday!  So, with the Waterman wedding as the light at the end of this print tunnel and with the help of a phenomenal team of women, V3 is off to the printer! We are all so proud of this issue.  It's 50% thicker and is really going to make waves in a good way.  We're breaking a lot of rules and pushing the legal limits of crazy great content.  OK, there are no legal limits, but we still broke 'em. TIME TO CELEBRATE!!!

So even though that huge load is off our collective back, now comes the really hard part: waiting until October 5, which is the first day we can share everything with y'all!

However, if you're like us, and just bursting at the seams with excitement, you do have the option of pre-ordering a copy -- or two or three!

Pre-order here!

Until the 5th!

Chilly Jilly Wraps : the perfect gift for
bridesmaids

I recently received my very own Chilly Jilly™ Wrap and I'm in love with it. It's a super stylish wrap that comes packaged in a small silk drawstring bag that can easily be tucked in your purse. If you feel a little chilly, for example in an air conditioned restaurant or an evening event, you can easily pull out your Chilly Jilly™ and be warm and stylish. There's no more need to carry an extra sweater with you. The great thing about these wraps, which are made from a microfiber material, is that they are almost entirely crease free. They might have a little bit of wrinkle when first taking it out of the bag, but they easily go away after putting it on.

And, the Chilly Jilly™ is super versatile as you can wse as a shawl on a cold evening or indoors at restaurants, movie theaters or any event. And, you can also use as a sarong at the beach or a scarf on a fall or winter day.

You can purchase your Chilly Jilly™ in 7 solid color choices and 3 reversible patterns. I think this wrap would make the perfect gift for your bridesmaids and even mothers of the bride and groom. You can also opt to purchase with a brooch and have it gift boxed. It's such a unique gift and one that will definitely be used by the recipient.

PS: While I was gifted a Chilly Jilly™ Wrap, I was not in any way paid
to make an endorsement, I simply wrote how I feel about the product.
