Erin & Davids Wedding

At the Red Lion Restaurant in Boulder, Colorado this afternoon.  And, as usual – a thunderstorm crept in just as the ceremony was suppost to start.  The best thing about Colorado… is we waited about 20 minutes and the pouring rain stopped and gave us some sun – and the wedding went as planned by [...]

Formal Invitation Connundrum: Love the Designer
Maps, but....

I was recently alerted to this posting on the WeddingBee Message Boards and wanted to share it with my readers:

At my meeting with the planner and invitation artist (what do you call them? Lol.) I mentioned that I really love a map, like those couture maps on that website, and that I'd like to include one that has different places - like our first date etc. pointed out on it. It would be so cute, have you seen that website? Anyway, she said that the map isn't at the level our invite is, I cannot include it.
I was really pleased to see everyone's reactions to the input the wedding planner gave in the initial posting. I do agree with what everyone has said and wanted to mention that my little maps have accompanied invitations by some of the biggest and most well-known designers such as CeciNY, Bella Figuera, and so many more. If those invitations are not formal than I don't know what is. Many of my clients tell me they are having formal events but they love the maps and see them as a way to incorporate their own personal style into an otherwise formal and traditional occasion. However, this is not everyone's cup of tea for their wedding invitations. If you have time and have not chosen your save the dates I do recommend doing a "fun" save the date and then formal invitation in a few months. Alternatively, as someone mentioned, you can use them in your welcome bags, or send them out early with itineraries. We frequently do maps for these purposes and many, many more. With the maps the possibilities are really endless {the map in question on the original posting is the one that we made matching t-shirts for the Fun Run before the wedding!} , and my clients often come back and tell me their maps and the production process of the maps were their favorite part of their wedding! I even had a client order a map of Maui for the wedding and then come back and order one 6 months later for her new home announcements.

Lastly, I truly believe that your wedding should be about you and your fiance, and your families celebrating together and that you should do the things that you like most and reflect your own style, rather than abiding by what is traditionally considered "proper" -- whether it means having 2 maid of honors and no bridesmaids, choosing bright orange and chartreuse for your wedding colors, or sending a fun map with your formal invitations! Thank you so much to Heather at Sugar River Stationers for alerting me to this posting! Please send me the photos of the maps we did together so that I can post about them!

WHAT'S NEW IN THE GALLERY

Check out my vintage style purses. Brides are carrying these on their wedding day as well as happlily ever after. Either would be the right on target accent peice whether you're going cocktail or gala. Though these little stunners look like they belong to the ages, they're my newest repros. Clara Bow might have have clutched either on her way across a movie set. The top view is pleated chiffon accented with a hand-rolled floral, the bottom a silk peau de soie envelope with optional pearl strung handle.

052 - Hows a Chilean wedding anyway

There?s a lot of different ways weddings are celebrated here (Just like in any other country) But there?s several ways Chileans incorporate some tradition to their special days, some use our traditional music, others traditional clothes, or traditional dance, horse ride or "Victoria". I?m not planning on adding those to our wedding (So far) but I thought I should share them :)

First our "Huaso Chileno" this would be our version of the "American Cowboy"

Our national dance "Cueca" (I know, Sounds funny but it's pretty)

video details and more

The traditional "Huaso and China" Clothes. This is a very popular Chilean traditional dance group call "Bafochi" (link) They perform all over the world and here you can see the normal "Elegant girl" outfit on our national colors (usually is just black and white)

I've seen a lot of weddings where the Groom is dressed on a "Huaso" outfit and the bride on a normal white dress and they do a small horse parade (I think is really cute)

Cort house is a very popular option here, but instead of having the ceremony at the Cort House usually someone goes to their homes and perform the ceremony (Usually a really quick one). This is how my parents got married, just the sign papers and a quick cocktail. (The kind I never wanted)

But of course there's the normal Santiago wedding too :)

051 - Why blogging is a challenge to me

Most of you know that I?m a Spanish speaker and I?ve never had real English classes. So I?ve learn over music, movies and Internet. Back on 2006 I knew just some words and the basics ?where?s the bathroom? and ?can I have one?? Kind of conversation. My goal by doing the interchange program then was to learn English the tough way, just go there all by myself and live the experience :) Never thought I would find the love of my life there yay!

I?ve managed to learn enough to understand everything people tell me and start conversations, BUT it was really hard to me to not do the ?translate everything on my head? process before speaking or writing.

Because I lack all the English grammar, and because sometimes it?s REALLY different than the way we normally do it on Spanish. I was really scared about actually working in California and communicate ALL DAY on English. (I even had nightmares :O )

Then I thought about blogging and here comes my personal challenge -> English speaking people are actually reading this!! I know I?m a baby blogger, but doing this pushes me to not just plan our dream wedding but also to practice and learn ( Because I?m also following and reading all the wedding related blogs I found interesting) Yes! I?m learning from all of you :P

I know there's different stories about why you started to blog ( If you actually have a blog) if so What does blogging means to you?

Brides and Grooms take back your Wedding Day!

In the past week or so I have been thinking a lot about childhood and remembering how great it was to just enjoy life as a child. I was amazed at how many things I could remember and that they were all such wonderful memories. Sometimes, I do not think we realize the importance of our memories. Planning your wedding is such a great time, especially if you are in to the wedding planning, but it can also be a very stressful time. I'm not particulary speaking about the stress in balancing your life while planning your wedding, but the stress in making everyone happy. Sometimes if mom is writing the check she wants some say in the wedding. Now, let me be clear some say is good, but all the say is very bad. This post is to empower you brides and grooms out there to stand up and have a say in your wedding day. You have to feel good and be happy about your wedding day. You want to remember you had your favorite song played or your favorite flowers. I think it is wonderful to compromise and sometimes it is very necessary, but remember these are your memories. Make sure you will be able to remember your day fondly.
