True love is hard to find, and when you marry the one, you want those memories to last forever. What better way to capture the love and intimacy you have for your other half than with a beautiful photograph? Sure, you can have photographs taken on your wedding day, but do those photos really show the essence and love you feel for your partner?
A after session photo shoot is the way to go. These are romantic portraits taken of the bride and groom in their wedding attire, and it can occur within the first year of marriage (sometimes even the day after the event). The portraits can be taken anywhere you want—at your honeymoon location, your engagement location, or just a fun place you want to go.
Photographer Critsey Rowe recently photographed a newlywed couple in New York City the day after their wedding. Colleen and Tim's after session was shot in Times Square, the subway, the Brooklyn Bridge, and in Grand Central Station.
In an after session, the couple and photographer don’t have the time constraints associated with a typical wedding day, so the couples are more relaxed and look more natural in their photographs. The dress has already been worn and is a little dirty, so there are no worries about getting it even dirtier (no—we’re not talking about a trash-the-dress-session).
The after session only takes one or two hours, but the memories will last forever. Because of the relaxed atmosphere of the photo shoot, these photographs capture the deep love and connection the couple has for each other.
Depending on the photographer, the after session portraits can tell the story of the couple’s romance. Critsey Rowe was able to do this perfectly with Kayce and Nic. This couple was engaged in Rome, Italy.
“I photographed their engagement session with the same Italian theme. By tying in the theme of their engagement, it will help build memories that will last a lifetime. I photographed their after session in an Italian-style winery with a beautiful villa and a surrounding vineyard. It just tied the whole Italian theme together which the couple really loved,” says Rowe.
“Having our after session four months after our wedding was fun, easy and freeing. We didn't feel rushed or have all the wedding day pressure to think about. We could be ourselves,” the bride Kayce added.
Rowe enjoys photographing couples and capturing the love they have for each other.
“I like to get to know my clients, so I can understand what kind of portraits they will love and be excited about. It makes me happy to make others happy. If I can make someone cry over a photo, I know I’ve done a good job,” says Rowe.
Critsey Rowe is a portrait and lifestyle photographer who photographs weddings around the country and abroad. Exclusive member of the Grace Ormonde's Platinum List. One of her celebrity weddings will be featured on Platinum Weddings on the We Channel in the fall.
For over seven years, he has photographed couples on the beaches of Puerto Rico, under the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and even on the walkway of the Brooklyn Bridge. For Critsey, the job is about more than providing high-quality portraits. The reason so many people hire her is that she’s personable. Because Critsey offers a boutique service, she’s able to get to know couples and help them relax on camera.
